tw04l124 ...
I have the same, its the result of developers using git rather than
repoman for commits ... --exclude, wait, re-sync, wash, repeat ;)

trying this now
| Code: | emerge -av iproute2
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ]
net-firewall/iptables-1.6.0:0/11::gentoo USE="-conntrack -ipv6
-netlink -nftables -pcap -static-libs" 595 KiB
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/iproute2-4.5.0::gentoo
[4.4.0::gentoo] USE="iptables* minimal -atm -berkdb -ipv6 (-selinux)" 0
KiB
Total: 2 packages (1 upgrade, 1 new), Size of downloads: 595 KiB
Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

Worked, REally a bug that it now needs iptables2 now. the old tools did not have the requirement for iptables |

| Since at least =sys-apps/iproute2/iproute2-3.17.0,
the ebuild has had a USE=iptables flag, which is enabled by default,
and when enabled, the package has an RDEPEND on iptables. This USE flag
was not present in =sys-apps/iproute2/iproute2-2.6.38,
but even that ebuild references iptables dependencies. Generally, if
you get a dependency you do not want, and there is a USE flag named
after that dependency, there is a good chance that toggling the USE flag
will remove the dependency. |

i do not need or want iptables and have deactivated the USEFLAG for good reason.
the patch described in bug https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=577464 works for me but this seems like a build-time dep.
instead of all the patching it's almost easier to emerge and then
unmerge iptables again which is not the way i ususally like doing
things. _________________ DUMM KLICKT GUT. |

I hope it is just a build time dependency...
Here's my experience , with the previous version (showing probably that the problem has only evolved from before):
A Firewalled Internet Access to Internal Subnet
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1041028.html#7897188
Do notice that I recompiled iproute2 without iptables, giving it: -iptables, and how equery still shows iproute2 depends on iptables. Pls. see there all the details. _________________ Miroslav Rovis

Generally, switching off a USE flag shouldn't cause a compilation error... _________________ ebuilds | Perl 6 ebuilds | runit |

| I agree. I assume you are referring to how that is currently not the case, as reported in sys-apps/iproute2-4.5.0[-iptables]: error: redeclaration of enumerator ‘IFF_*’.
The Gentoo maintainers seem to agree as well, which is why they are
working on getting this patch upstream instead of removing the USE flag
and forcing everyone to install iptables. I believe I was responding
specifically to tw04l124's statement that the old tools did not need it,
primarily to point out that this is not a recent dependency. I had not
read that bug report before, because none of the references in this
thread indicated that it was specifically about how setting
USE=-iptables breaks the build. |
